Before you compare interior quotes, ask what's not in the number
Why an interior "starting at" price rarely matches the final bill, and the questions to ask any designer before you compare two quotes.

An interior design ad that says "2BHK interiors starting at ₹X lakh" is usually describing modular units only: the kitchen and the wardrobes. That can be a perfectly fair number. The trouble starts when you hold it up against a quote that covers much more, and the two are treated as if they were the same thing.
What is often quoted separately
Several things that almost every 2BHK needs are commonly left out of the headline number:
- False ceiling
- Lights and electrical work
- Painting
- Loose furniture such as the sofa, beds and dining set
None of these is unusual or optional for most homes. They are simply not part of the figure on the ad, and they tend to appear after you have already agreed to go ahead.
Questions to ask any designer before you compare
- What exactly does this number cover, room by room?
- What is not covered, and roughly what would each of those items add?
- When will I see those costs: before I sign, or after?
- If I change something, how is the change priced and approved?
- Is the number I sign the number I pay at handover?
If a designer cannot answer these clearly, that is useful information on its own. Two quotes can look far apart and still not be comparable, because they are not quoting the same scope.
How we quote at Eureka
Your quote lists what is included and what is not, before you pay. The number you sign is the number you pay at handover, unless you change the scope. Rachana, who designs your home, is the person who scopes it with you, so the list you see is the list that gets built.
A simple way to compare
Put the two quotes side by side and list every room and every item in each. Mark what appears in one and not the other. The gap between the two numbers is usually explained by that list, not by one designer being more expensive than the other.
